COMPLEXITY – UNLOCKED
a deep dive into the layers of reality
At the moment, in every corner of reality there is an issue that cannot be solved easily. We face major and complex challenges. Challenges that have become increasingly complex in recent years.
Complexity means: woven together.
Facts, events, opinions and ideas, ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ factors are often so intertwined that it seems impossible to get anything moving.
Whether we like it or not, complexity is part of our lives. It surrounds us, we are part of it and it is a property of our physical, social and psychological system.
The way we deal with complexity has a huge impact on the quality of our lives.
THE QUESTION
The central question is: how do we arrive at groundbreaking and sustainable solutions, without getting caught up in the complexity that is always there?
How do such solutions come about? Can they be called up, enforced or is it a matter of waiting for chance?
THE ANSWER
To get as close as possible to effective answers, we developed
- a series of simulation games,
- a package of in-depth training
- and a special web application.
YOU CAN
uncover and understand more deeply the coherence and dynamics of the system hidden behind an issue.
NEW INSIGHT
is gained into the dynamics of success, failure and risk factors of decisions, interventions, strategies and their possible consequences over time.
DECISIONS,
interventions and strategies have a much greater chance of breakthrough and sustainable success.
SIMULATION GAMING
With the simulation games you penetrate deep into the different layers and connections of a complex issue.
We developed a series of 5 serious games around key issues that play a decisive role in almost every situation: TRUST, RESILIENCE, RISK, DEVELOPMENT and RESULT.
In the simulation you will work in a physical learning landscape to unravel your own complex problem in real time around one of the key issues. Together with colleagues, you visualize the different layers and connections with which the issue is constructed. In this constructed landscape you then test which decisions and interventions can have which consequences over time.
The simulation games are analog. Experience shows that the direct nature of this analogue working method produces remarkable results that have a deep impact.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
In order to penetrate deeply into the different layers and connections with which a complex issue is constructed, we developed a series of training courses. Training in which you are intensively introduced to the theory and specific skills of systems thinking and brain learning.
Unraveling the layers of reality is based on the principles of system dynamics, systems thinking, divergent thinking and neuro-biological insights. We combine this basis with the essence of the creative process that leads to the creation of unique and inspired works in the visual arts.
The training courses are indispensable for every director and policymaker who is confronted with complex issues in a complex reality. But also for anyone looking for hidden information, from negotiator to developer, from investigative journalist to interrogator and crisis intervener.
BROADVIEW | changing perspectives
The web application BROADVIEW | Changing perspectives allows you to analyze any complex situation quickly and effectively.
What interacts, what aspects did we not see, what things did we overestimate or underestimate? And how do we put the new insight into practice to achieve sustainable success?
In the application you determine a focus: what are you looking at? What do you want to see decrease or increase?
Which combination of factors are responsible for this and what happens when you change 1 or more of those factors?
Over the past 10 years, the following topics have been the focus of the BROADVIEW application with great success:
performance – business modeling – agility – adaptive capacity – agility – work processes – value chains – (human) resources & conditions – adaptive workforce – market exploration – environmental influences – image – (political) feasibility – complex negotiations – cultural interventions – dilemmas & value contradictions – risk tracing & responding – governance & compliance.
BASICS
The basis of the project consists of a combination of:
- the universal theories Systems Thinking (Senge et al.), System Dynamics (‘Club of Rome’, MIT – USA);
- brain theories such as Developmental Trauma, Window of Tolerance, Bowlby’s attachment theory;
- effects of divergent and lateral thinking;
- methodology that provides access to free thinking space, the space where original things arise and can be found.
